It all started with missing beads on a bathing suit. In the summer of 2006, Jodi Postiy noticed her favorite bikini had lost a few rhinestones, and taking matters into her own hands, she paid a visit to her local bead shop. What happened next was pure passion for Jodi as she sorted through the colorful glass beads, gemstones and crystals. “Before then, I had no idea what beading or bead shops were all about,” she said. “But once I discovered how fun and creative beading could be, I completely fell in love with it.”
From that day forward, Jodi, whose work can be seen in bead and jewelry shows throughout Florida and Ohio, turned her new obsession into a wearable art enterprise. She has created one-of-a-kind handbags, brooches, and a variety of women’s jewelry. Each piece is modern and exotic-- pulsating with energizing colors and jaw-dropping designs-- and symbolic of Jodi’s playful yet glamourous personality.
Jodi’s interest in jewelry making stems from her childhood, when she would play dress up or decorate the family home for special occasions; however, she attributes much of her talent to her mother.”All my life, I have always enjoyed creating things,” she said. “But my mother was extremely crafty and I truly believe this gift came from her.”
As a beadwork artist, Jodi finds inspiration in everything, from music to her beloved cat “Miss Kitty” as well as the wondrous sights and sounds of nature. “The motivation for my work starts many different ways... sometimes it can even be a picture or a mood that I am in,” said Jodi. “I never draw out what I am going to do; inspiration always finds me and I just fly with it!”
Jodi has studied under world-renowned beadwork artist, Sherry Serafini, and worked along side Ellen Solomon and Karen Johnson at Beads FOB in Sarasota, Florida. Along with teaching others how to bead embroidery, Jodi looks forward to one day writing a book about beadwork. She currently lives in North Canton, Ohio and Sarasota with her husband, Bill, and their wonderful little fur ball, “Miss Kitty.”
